Project Wild

Yesterday I had the chance to attend a Project Wild workshop! Project Wild is an environmental education program applicable for K - 12 classes. The program includes detailed lesson plans that are centered around outdoor education. The lesson plans are applicable for various subjects such as science, art, language and physical education. I really enjoyed the hands-on aspect of the workshop, and the fantastic lesson plan resources.

I highly encourage all educators to obtain this certification!

Educational Games

Lately I have been exploring the Web, in hopes of finding some educational games for students to use on their spare time.

The first one is called "Meteor Multiplication".  The game focuses on one digit and two digit multiplication. The reason I like this game is because instead of looking at the factors first, the product is placed at the focus, and students are forced to think "How did I get here?".  This game is appropriate for grades 4 - 8, and can be played here: http://bit.ly/ZZA5Nj

The second game is called "Coconut Vowels".  Coconuts with words fall from the sky, and students must place the proper vowels in the coconuts before they hit the ground. I like this game because students get to see various vowel combinations, and the increasing speed per level is an added challenge. The game is appropriate for grades 3 - 5.  It can be played here:  http://bit.ly/1DFhpll

Everyday Resources

These sites are a few of my favourite. I hope that you get to know me a little better, and get some enjoyment out of them.

http://www.earthcam.com/ - I love to travel, but when this is not a possibility, this website allows me to experience various destinations of the world from the comfort of my home.  In the classroom, this can also be a fun way to bring a lesson to life.

http://www.pinterest.com/ - Though Pinterest is very much well known, I get much enjoyment out of it both for miscellaneous purposes and educational purposes. Because you can create various boards, you can easily pin items of different interests and refer to them later.

http://music.cbc.ca/ - CBC Music has a wide range of playlist available for streaming. They are all categorized by genre. Listening to music while having a nice cup of tea is how I like to spend my downtime. This resource can also be used in the classroom, perhaps while students are completing art work.

Educators - Lesson Planning Tool

A valuable resource for educators: Sesame

This online resources give teachers the opportunity to create a profile, and design lesson plans with built-in curriculum guidelines. The drag and drop features make it both simple and effective. Lessons can then be shared with fellow educators, or can remain private for your own use.
